Biography
Dr. Qing Yang is a Distinguished Engineering Professor at
URI and an IEEE Fellow. His research interests are in the
area of computer architecture and data storage. He has
over 28 years of experiences in the areas of computer
architecture and data storage both in academic research
and in high tech industry. He has published over 120 high
quality technical articles in these research fields and
served as a general chair for the premier conferences in
computer architecture such as International Symposium on
Computer Architecture. He held 20 issued US patents and
over a dozen pending applications. Majority of his patents
have been licensed to computer industry with significant
practical impact. He has founded four high tech startup
companies using his research inventions and his patents in
Boston area. His latest startup, VeloBit, was based on his
new research results on flash memory SSD management. The
products of VeloBit made a great impact on SSD storage
sector. Western Digital, the worldwide dominator in
storage devices, realized the significant value of the
technologies of VeloBit and acquired VeloBit in July 2013
as a part of its strategic transition to entering the SSD
market.
